We use the internal to match with the external. Taijiquan aka Tai Chi is ‘water’ training. Fight training is ‘Fire’ training. Shadow boxing, cardio, heavy bag, strength training, sparring, technique drilling, pad work, medicine ball, and much much more will be used to harness your inner fire. Taijiquan, neigong, etc. will be used for internal power cultivation and as a recovery from strength conditioning, cardio, and endurance training.*
Taijiquan as a martial combative art shares universal principles like the evasion skills of a bullfighter, stepping and strike skills of western boxer, precision skills of fencing, strength and flexibility of wrestling, the pressure and power of sumo, and special techniques and kicks of kung fu.
Let’s examine some features that Taijiquan has with other styles and how all abide by ‘universal fighting principles’. Real Taijiquan should be able to “hang” with fighters from other styles with its unique training method. Remember, every martial art styles are best at what they were designed to do. Taijiquan is no exception, it has strikes, throws, locks, sweeps, and more.
Power and Structure
With the cultivation of internal power you’ll be able to use the application of various functions of Taijiquan. Chinese say “Da” attack and “Fa” emit force. We’ll train you how to strike, hit with force, while being relaxed at the same time. You’ll learn to evade and how to take a hit, work stepping, and defense techniques as foundation. We don’t talk in mysterious jargon (common in non-fighter Tai Chi posers) when it comes to function, only in practical terminology and application.

Fight team is centered around 12 week fight camp before the fight date for those interested in Sport competition and tournaments. Koushu Lei Tai full contact, San Da or San shou full contact, Muay Thai smokers and other amateur events including MMA we can corner you and prepare you. We’ve trained several fighters for these types of events and will be glad to work with you and help you develop stamina, mind-set, endurance, technique, courage, and pressure to rehearse the chaos and violence that will occur in the ring, lei tai, mat, or cage. The work has to be put in without complaint. There is a lot to cover and much to do and study when taking on the role of a full contact fighter.
