Art for Sale* circa 1992-1995

Most of these works are from my college era at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond Virginia as a Major in Fine Arts: Painting and printmaking. I graduated in 1995.

These are what is left after a basement flood at my old condo, and many of the large paintings in my collection were given away.

My work is based on spirituality of eastern philosophy. Zen Buddhism was my earliest exposure through books and a local community temple. During my stay at VCU I learned Taijiquan aka “Tai Chi” from several local teachers and professors. My Eastern philosophy teacher Dr. Jonathan Shear also taught “TM” aka Transcendental Meditation. It was through Anthony Curtis, a local yoga guru, that I was introduced to Tibetan Buddhism and he brought Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche to Richmond. As a disciple I studied many Tibetan Sutra, Tantra, and Dzogchen methods from both the Nyingma and Bonpo (Shamanic) traditions.

I was exposed to Chinese medicine through Wilson Pitts and Chinese doctor “The Amy”. I also studied with both He Weiqi, and her husband Xu Jengheng deeply in Yang Taijiquan, Qigong, and other healing methods such as nutrition, herbs, acupoints, meditation, and more.

This inspired me to get my massage license and eventually licensed in acupuncture.

In my works you’ll see recurring themes of colorful horizontal lines, This is based on the Jalupa which is a monk that has died and transformed himself into pure light and a rainbow. It has nothing to do with the LGBT community. It is a high attainment a monk will make on their deathbed. It is a legendary tradition to die and transform body to light, much like the resurrection of Christ.

*we can negotiate framing. All prints are unframed and unmounted.
